Balloons on a Balloon

As annoying as it may sound – right now I’m congratulating myself on how this card turned out. As well it fits 2 challenges which is even more amazing. Shouldn’t blow my own trumpet but on occasion it is really hard to resist.

Fun with BALLOONS
DRU Challenge #137 – Birthdays

It is funny how an idea pops into your head when you least expect it. I was looking at a card on Simon Says that featured balloons and I thought I wonder if I can create something on the same lines. In the example the DT had used stamps and then added a shaker down the middle on a tall style card. I decided to use mostly die cuts and a balloon shape as the card base to which I then added all the die cuts. I used my Simon Says balloon dies for some and my Layered Birthday Spellbinders set for a few smaller ones. To cut the card base I used the largest balloon die and left it slightly off the card base so I would have a side folded card. I used a layering weight CS because I didn’t think the thicker weight wouldn’t cut through properly. I glued and popped up the various balloons until I was happy with the design. Using a GKD sentiment from the Massive messages set and versamark I heat set it in the cosmic shimmer powder I love. I then fussy cut it out to make it thinner so it wouldn’t detract from all the balloons. I added a small bow at the bottom which I dipped in gold stickles so it would sparkle a bit. Hands are not capable of making bows today and this one was already tied but the wrong colour. The only downside to the card is that it won’t stand up due to shape and weight.

  1. Thanks Jan – I haven’t had a lot of spare time for creating this week so sitting down to do this was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

    1. Thanks a lot. tying bows is difficult for me at the best of times because my hands can’t really feel the fabric anymore – have trouble sewing anything for the same reason. This needed a bow so I used one I’d done on a day when it was possible but it needed the sparkle for sure.

    1. It was fun to get this one done. I forgot to mention that I sponged the base card with Milled Lavender ink and a touch of shaded lilac so it wouldn’t be stark white. I added a touch of perfect pearl powder over that so there is a slight shimmer in places. Glad you like it.

    1. Thanks Lisa – I have it on a small easel right now, but couldn’t make it stand for the photo. In the end I laid it flat and did the photo that way.

  2. What a fabulous card. I love all the details and thought that went into it. You should toot your own horn because you did a great job. I like the fussy cut sentiment.

    1. Thanks Judy – when I stamped the sentiment I originally thought I would make it long enough to bend and glue on the sides but I didn’t like it at all. That is why I fussy cut it – it looks better this way.

  3. Thanks Gayle – I had a lot of fun pulling this together. Sometimes an idea just works and everything flows. This was one of those.

    1. Sometimes we get an idea and it works out way better than in one’s imagination. This was one of those. Glad you like it.
