Fishy Rings

Challenge #370 – Sketch
PP491 – A Clean-and-Simple Challenge from Ann

Using up a few scraps I made an additional card with the Koi die from PoppyStamps. After die cutting the fish I brushed a bit of colour in rusty hinge and then remembered I had perfect pearls in the coppery colour. I brushed that on while the ink was still slightly wet so I got the shine for the scales and a depth of colour in other places. The rings were left from other projects and I sponged colour onto them and then used perfect pearls in the blue and the green to get shine and depth. Once the strip was added in the center I played with the rings until happy with placement and glued them. I left just enough loose so I could tuck the fish into the rings as you see on the photo. Added the word from a GKD set and am entering it into challenges. Just under the wire for the sketch challenge at CAS, and a second card for Paper Players.

  1. Creative, masculine, CAS and a sketch challenge! Your card fits everything perfectly. The koi swimming through the rings is very cool.

    1. Honestly it was pure luck that it fit both challenges. Initially I was just trying to use up scraps, and realized if I was careful I could make it work for the sketch.

    1. Thanks Lisa. I like doing ocean type cards but now I’ve done a few I’ll probably stop for a while.

  2. Oh, wow! I absolutely love the koi swimming through the rings…what a creative design! I like the richness of the sponged colors on the rings. They are a wonderful contrast to the amazing color of the koi. Thank you for sharing this card in my clean and simple challenge at The Paper Players!

  4. I love this! Yes, I do like fish. It’s wonderful that you got the shine to its scales, too. When my kids were young, we had goldfish and trained them to follow us when we were by the tank, as well as to come up and take the food from our fingers. Your fish swimming through the rings looks like a highly trained and fun fish! A man would probably look and think “It’s getting away!” But, we all enjoy the beauty you create, no matter our perspective.

  5. I love how you interpreted the sketch! The goldfish swimming through the hoops is a great idea. Kind of indicative of our current global predicament. Great card! Thanks for playing along with us, this week, at CC&S
