so proud of you

Our surrogate daughter informed us that in early January she is being promoted in her job. The challenge here at Inkspirational has an interesting mood board and I took the colour theme of black and gold along with the heart cushions and patterns for my card. I honestly had no idea what I was going to make when I started, but have learned that often a card will evolve. Cutting some gold CS and some black and white striped CS was my first task. Then I decided to die cut the heart in the center of the gold panel, after which I added the striped piece at the back. Taking an older EF from Lifestyle crafts I was going to run it through when I suddenly thought about die cutting a smaller heart from the center. Used Hero Arts dies for my cutting and then I ran it through the EF. I die cut a small gold heart which I paper pieced into the center before adding the whole panel onto the note card. Using some cut apart sentiments from Paper Roses, I found the perfect one to add as you see.

All the texture adds a lot of interest and tones down the shiny gold a bit. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. Because of all the texture, my card also fits into the CYHTP challenge too, although I didn’t take the winter twist part of the challenge.

In addition I shall add it to a new to me challenge called https://alphabetchallengeblog.blogspot.com/ T is for Texture is the choice for the current one.

I shall wait until the promotion is fully confirmed before sending this card, but I’m sure she will be surprised and pleased with it. Thanks for stopping by, all comments are appreciated.

happy new year

Happy New Year to everyone. Here’s hoping that the coming year is better for everyone, but in particular for those affected by war and strife. My card for Make My Monday reflects the current challenge but is a very simple card. The hardest part was fussy cutting the image. The frame was leftover from a previous project and my flower is also from that project too. Dies used are Paper Rose and Distinctly Dees. Sentiment from a Divinity Design set and the image stamp is from YNS. Technically an anniversary stamp set but I liked it for a New Year card.

Hope your Holiday season has been wonderful. Thanks for stopping by, it is appreciated.

adding the lights

Having never tried one of these diamond style cards it seemed to me to be time to give one a go. This is my attempt and as it almost fits the colours at Just Add Ink, I am playing in their current challenge. I did follow a tutorial found on Pinterest just to ensure I got things right, but stupidly didn’t save the link and now I cannot find it. I know I changed the measurement slightly as I wanted my card to fit existing envelopes. Once I had cut and scored my card front, I added the StampinUp PP on the flap inside and out. I also added it to the smaller squares but used white CS for the main piece which I then added to a gold background. The inside of the card has some ephemera left over from a previous Christmas. The stamped images are from StampinUp and a new this year set by YNS. The trees were coloured using ink but the penguin was done with pencils and some glitter pens for the lights. The red bird was from a set by SSS I think and I used glitter CS to cut him.

I hope you have all had a fabulous Christmas and that the coming New Year Celebration is fun for you too. I doubt very much I shall be up until midnight personally. I’m lucky if I get past 9pm these days. Thanks for stopping by, your comments are always appreciated.

dashing through the snow

I classified this design style as Clean and Layered because of the PP in the background and the fact that the image layer has some embellishments. To do this card I used some scraps from previous projects, as my plaid layer is a leftover piece, as is the actual image piece and my card front is a white shimmer CS. The images and sentiment are from rub-ons by Taperology. Because I was running out of time for mailing I ended up doing a few Taperology cards so I could do them quickly and as many as possible. I have to say that I really like the rub-ons and shall be purchasing more of them. They can be used in so many ways and the results are pretty good. Prior to Christmas I ran out of time to post quite a few of my cards so today I decided to add a few and if possible also add them to a challenge. It has been a while since I played at the Card Concept, but hopefully I can play a bit more in 2024.

Sending you all Happy New Year Wishes and let’s hope that the turmoil of 2023 is not happening for 2024. Thanks for stopping by.

trifold slimline birthday

First the card front and then second one showing the fold.

The last challenge of the year is #215 at Cardz4galz and is to do a slimline card. This is what I came up with. I used some DSP that I wasn’t sure I would ever use but really love and cut the pieces as you see. The design was a top and bottom with space between the images. I decided having the upside down design at the top was okay for this style of card. I used my modern oval Hero Arts dies for the card front and added a water coloured amaryllis that I fussy cut, popped up on top. The stamp is from an old set that I have no brand name for. The sentiment is from a Spellbinders set and I cut several to stack for stability. I used a dark gray CS for my base card.

I’m quite pleased with how this one turned out and know just the person I shall give it to when the time comes.

Thanks for stopping by, it is appreciated. I wish you all a fantastic and Happy New Year.

the best thing about winter …

I think this will be my last post for a few days as we are hosting some neighbors tomorrow evening and then we have guests arriving for Christmas. I will be busy most of tomorrow creating the appies etc. Did all the shopping yesterday and today so most of the rushing about is done thank goodness.

I bought this stamp set recently and decided it was the perfect choice for the snow scene challenge at DD. Once the image was stamped I used pencils to add some colour and then I die cut a frame using some shimmer CS which I dry embossed. I had meant to dry emboss some snow into the image piece but forgot. Instead I added some Stickles glitter to denote a bit of snow falling. It really sparkles, but as always, it is hard to see in the photo. The sentiment pieces are from the same Colorado Craft company stamp set and I used them so if I want it to, it can become a winter thank you card.

Perhaps not one of my most imaginative card makes, but it works for the challenge and wasn’t a difficult one to do. Sometimes a cute and fairly easy card is what we need.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas followed by a Happy New Year. Thanks for all the comments this past year. They help make me a better crafter.

cool yule

The sketch challenge at AAA wanted cold and I had been playing with an idea for a while and had the pieces on my desk that I hadn’t fully developed until today. The Christmas challenge mood board at Peace on Earth also looks chilly so I’m adding this to both challenges.

You may remember a card I did a while ago that was inspired by a photo and basically this card is inspired by that same photo. I’ve mislaid the image so unfortunately can’t share it, but it had a frosty flower tucked in front of the moon and I had been thinking of how I could make something look frosty without coating the entire image. The moon was created with a circle die and some alcohol inks. After the ink was dry I added some embossing by stamping a snowflake with Versamark and silver powder. The tree was from Penny Black and I die cut in a shimmer CS. Then I added some Versamark around the branches with a sprinkle of white powder which I didn’t fully heat set. It wasn’t quite enough so I repeated the process but this time added some silver instead. Again it isn’t fully heat set as I wanted it to be grainy. The holographic star was one left over from a previous project and the sentiment is from a Cat’s Pajamas stamp set. I used blueprint sketch ink for this.

I’m quite pleased with the result and I guess this will be one of the first cards to go in my Christmas box for next year, unless I suddenly need a card this week. It probably doesn’t really match the sketch at AAA, but nevertheless it was fun to put together and it sure says cold to me.

Thanks for stopping by, it is appreciated.

musical celebration

To me music is a celebration of many things and I used a scrap piece of vintage music as my background. The star was cut with HeroArts infinity dies from a striped glitter CS and I added the vintage angel on top before adding the Spellbinders sentiment strip. A few additional gold stars and a border of Chrismas CS at the bottom completed the card.

A very easy card done when I was in a hurry to finish my list. I’m in the midst of cleaning up my craft room, but decided to post a few of the cards I completed and mailed. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a wonderful day.

stocking stuffer

The Sisterhood of Crafters is a Christmas theme and here is one of my more recent creations. My friend is a lover of Dachshunds and has one in her life. I searched online until I found an image that I thought would work for adding a puppy to the stocking. I resized it, printed and fussy cut so it would fit inside the die cut stocking. I used a Marianne Design die and cut it twice, once in the striped CS and once in the silver. I added a small piece of DSP from StampinUp down one side and a Taperology rub on at the top right. A little bit of sparkle and a snowflake finished the card. Who can resist that face peeping from the stocking? My friend is thrilled with the card as she phoned me to say so.

Hope everyone has a jolly and Happy Christmas. Thanks for stopping by, it is appreciated.

Together is the merriest …

Cardz4Galz is having a Christmas challenge this time around and my example uses a set from StampinUp that I acquired last year. I haven’t used it a lot so I thought it a good choice for this example. The embossing folder that is part of the set allows for die cutting the embossed section so using some copper metallic CS this what I did first. I used a soft green layer in behind it and stamped the sentiment directly inside the framed section. After stamping the various pieces I wished to use, I die cut them and added to the corner of the frame. This panel was then added to the white card front. The detailed embossing in the copper layer is quite amazing and I love the result.
