Going to a craft store and sorting through their sale items is both a great and a bad idea. It didn’t take long to spend $100.00. The die set and the paper used on this card are all products from the sale. There are two different Santa’s in this set along with some other accessories and I created a second card along with this one.

Once I had cut all the pieces I slowly put them together, but first I added the colour and let them dry where necessary. For Santa I used alcohol markers and for the trees and truck I used water colour shimmer paint. The sentiment is from Woodware and the candy cane is ephemera from StampinUp. I used a glitter pen to add a bit of sparkle on the background, but it isn’t visible in the photo. My hubby felt this card was the cutest of the two.

favourite colour

The latest challenge at Seize the Birthday #310-Use Your Favorite Color. My favourite colour is almost always purple in any variation and I like it paired with yellow and or gold. I wasn’t too sure of what I might make for the challenge so decided to just play around with a few scraps and some dies. This card is the result of playing. I had no real idea in my head, except that I wanted it simple. My card front is from GKD, the dies used are from Essentials Mixed edge rectangle layering basics and a heart shape from Hero Arts infinity dies. I cannot remember which stamp set the sentiment is from as it was one of several I had in my stash of oddments although I suspect it is from a dollar store stamp set. The purple paper is from StampinUP and was sitting around on my desk for several weeks. I didn’t like the patterned side but I love the variation in tone on the purple side. The yellow is what I have in my stash. I cut another heart from gold which I then cut in half and added behind the purple one to give an edge to it. This was then popped up with some foam tape and added after I had glued the rectangles in place.

This is quite a simple card, and I like how it turned out. Using this die set was also a good idea as I’ve had it for some time and not used it nearly enough. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your time and any comments you may leave.

sorry for your loss

One of my yoga and coffee group ladies, lost her mother last week so I made this card for her. I used a Taylored Expression tree die for the focal layer and a StampinUp EF for the background section. After cutting my trees I added some lost shadow ink and before it was dry sprinkled a little silver embossing on top so it has more texture and a little shine. After adding some foam tape I set it aside so I could emboss the background on some StampinUp PP. This was then added this to the entire card front. The die cut was added and using a small piece of scrap card along with using a transfer from some rub-ons I have, I did the little bird. Then I fussy cut before popping it up on foam tape. I cut my circle with another StampinUp set and added the sentiment in Blueprint sketch ink. I also sponged the edges with the same ink.

I’m quite happy with the end result. It has a soft and subtle look that works for a sympathy card.

I’m adding this card to the current challenge at CYHTP although the option of adding fall colours hasn’t been taken.
