shades of blue

I think this card works for three challenges which I will list at the end, but I followed the recipe at As You See It for the general idea. I also CASE’d a frame done by one of the DT’s (Deborah Wheeler) as I liked it a lot. She used a different die and colours but the idea came from hers. The challenge at JUG’s is a mood board and I obviously used the colours from one of the images and the one at Double D is flowers. The main stamp set is from GKD and was gifted to me by a treasured stamp buddy. There are a couple of images that are from other sets. I took my photo and then realized I had forgotten one of the ingredients so I quickly added a sequin bow and took another photo. The die cut butterfly is from Crafters Companion and the fussy cut smaller one is from some DSP by StampinUp and I added a tiny bit of sparkle to both. The frame die is unbranded and I had issues with the last cut piece. Why a die cuts beautifully for a few and then terribly for one boggles my mind. Anyway suffice to say that I was able to hand cut the spots that weren’t’ cut through and then stacked the die cuts together to get a bit of dimension. The sentiment was initially stamped onto the layer but I didn’t check it carefully enough and the frame ended up covering the top word. I was going to float another piece over the top but I didn’t like it so in the end I cut off the missing word and added it alone. All in all I like the card which always a bonus.

Thanks for stopping by – it is appreciated.

    1. Thanks Heather. I like the recipes the blog occasionally has but laugh at myself when I forget one of the ingredients.

  2. Thanks a lot. It was fun to make but the frame was time consuming when it didn’t cut properly.

  3. What a lovely collection of shades of blue. The frame certainly adds to the whole creation – I’m sorry you had ‘issues’ – but managed to salvage it – looks great. I particularly like how the images are outside the frame and not completely kept within it – a great idea. xx

    1. Thanks. I used to think everything had to be contained but have learned to let go and do things a bit differently.

  4. Hi, I know that you have been a card maker for a long time, just like me. I love seeing us seasoned crafters use lots of different stamps and dies to create a spectacular card like this one. Alter all, I have accumulated a lots of supplies. We need to be creative and use them. Thanks for linking up with us at Double D Challenge.

  5. Thanks Barbara. You’ve been doing it far longer than I have, but I agree that using what we have creatively is important. My hubby asked me for something yesterday but wanted it much larger than the folder allows. I told him I could do tons of things for him if I could buy whatever I wanted whenever I wanted which made him shake his head. It was worth a try – LOL.

    1. Thanks a lot Gayle. It would have been a lot easier if the last frame had cut cleanly but it didn’t and I tried twice.

  6. What a lovely card and a great use of our ingredients! I like that your use of Deborah’s idea has turned out both so differently and so well. The single word on the frame may have been done by necessity but it looks like it was always supposed to be like that! Thanks for joining us again at As You See It.

  7. Johanna, that frame is really eye-catching! I love the paper or the painted background that you die-cut it from! The flowers and butterflies really seem to fit well together, too! Thanks for cooking up our recipe at As You See It Challenges!

    1. To get the frame I sponged several blues on a scrap piece big enough for the die and then cut it out. I felt it need a bit of something so I went over it with perfect pearl powder. I’m really pleased you like it. Thank you.

  8. This is such a pretty card Johanna and I love how you took Deborah’s inspiration to make a card that is your own. I love the design of our frame and the way it encourages you to look through to your florals – it’s like a window view. This mix of blues and touch of sparkle makes the whole thing shimmer too. Thanks for playing along with our recipe challenge over at As You See It this week!

  9. Many thanks, I am so happy you like it. I had fun making it even with the poor cutting job on the last frame layer.
