The colour challenge/photo at Sunday Stamps made me nostalgic for boating. The hope is that as rules are relaxed a bit more the marine parks will reopen so we can go here and there through the summer. In the meantime making a card using these colours has to suffice. The challenge at The Card Concept is similar in theme and I was inspired by the lake image behind the camping gear. It is hard for me to define exactly the style I used but I lean more to the Clean and Layered style although it might fit the Freestyle collage style better.

The idea for the striped background came from this weeks Splitcoast Stampers tutorial by Becky Roberts. She did 2 cards from 1 panel so I have another circle I can use later. The stamps used are from a GKD set called My Anchor, tiny birds from an Inspired by stamping set and another Inspired by Stamping set called Seaside Sentiments. Die cutting was done with GKD dies. How I did the actual stamping was due to a Stamping buddy Lisa B who recommended a video found HERE. Eventually I will use this tutorial to make a watercolour card, but for this one I just used my Tombow markers to colour the stamp and huffed on it prior to stamping. Before actually stamping anything I did the clouds and sea background using a stencil and brushes. Added a few gems to the sentiment panel and a hint of sparkle in other places. My hubby loves this card and I have to say I’m pretty pleased with it myself.
What a beautiful and peaceful card. Your stripes are wonderful behind the light house. I love the sentiment.

Glad you like this Judy. I had a lot of fun playing until I got it the way I wanted. Fortunately the lighthouse stamp was small enough to fit onto the circle. The other one I have it way bigger.

Glad you like it and thanks for the idea from the video you linked. I forget about my Tombow markers sometimes but they sure worked well for this.

I’m happy you like my nautical cards Gayle. I guess being a boater means I go for them more than normal. Boat is being hauled next week for bottom painting and survey. Once that is done it will be ready for use and if the 3rd phase of the reopening goes ahead then places will be available for moorage.

This is a great card, Johanna! I agree with Gayle on your great background and lighthouse and how you do nautical well. I love how you did the sentiment panel, as well. It really is a great card.

Thanks Golda. Initially I was going to cut the sentiment panel down and make it more like a banner on each end, but when I placed it on the card front to look at it, I realized that it was good as it was because it broke up the stripes a bit. Once I added the birds and the gems I really liked how it looked.
