The diagonal stripe die used here is one I’ve had for a while, but cannot find the label for at the moment, so I have no idea who made it. I decided to do two frames in both the blue and the turquoise and paper piece them. The one on the left is paper pieced flat and the one on the right has about half of the fallout strips popped up with foam tape. This is why you see a small amount of the white background card. Stamps used are from Itty Bitty Basics at MFT, and Hampton Art for the sentiments. The Panda comes from A.I. as do the tiny paw prints. The baby shirt and stork are die cuts from a set called Baby by Little Bee and the heart is from Hero Arts. I coloured the Panda with Inktense pencils and Sakura Glaze pens. Although I don’t need baby cards right now, I may need them later so they will go into my stash for the time being. I kept the images I added over the die cut, fairly simple as the diagonal stripes are quite strong.

When I began this colour challenge I had no idea where I was going with this design, and it evolved as I was working on it. As well I have to improve my card stock supplies as I’m running out of quite a lot of colours. I would have liked a lighter blue but don’t have anything the right shade. As both cards fit the challenge I’m letting the Design Team decide which they like the best.

We have lovely spring weather today and we managed to spend a couple of hours outside cleaning up some of the winter mess and pruning a few plants. Having seen this fold on Instagram from Sue Stampfield I checked it out more fully by looking at her online blog. She has the full tutorial including a video and I basically followed that. In her examples she used some beautiful DSP, but I wanted my card to work for two challenges so I did it a little differently. To achieve the rainbow effect I inked up some mineral paper and added it to the card front after I had dry embossed it with a Darice Swirly Vines folder. This helped me to meet the challenge at CYHTP and of course the fun fold meets the challenge at Creative Creases. The side panels at each end use some patterned coloured vellum adding to the rainbow effect and I found a scrap piece with the polka dots in my stash that was just the right size to cut down for this project. The smile die is quite old and is from SSS. I remember buying this after seeing Jen McGuire do a demo using their new set and I got this along with the stamp set at that time. The butterfly is one I’ve also had for ages and I think is likely Memory Box but I’m not sure. Unfortunately I’ve lost a part of the die as it came in 3 parts. The base wings, the filigree part and the antenna and body. I’ve mislaid the antenna part and will have to pull apart several drawers to see where it is. I didn’t have the patience to do this today so I hand drew mine and fussy cut. Too bad I don’t have the die as the antenna would be much finer.

I wish the makers of dies would print the company name on dies – it would make life easier. I wanted to show a photo of the card closed as the sides fold up behind the main piece, but mine wouldn’t stay closed and I gave up. If you look at Sue’s blog you can see how it looks there.

I’m quite pleased with the end result and it isn’t a difficult card to make especially if one uses mainly DSP designs. The ones from StampinUp can give lovely scenes as you will see if you follow the link.

For the ink blending challenge at AAA I used a feather stencil so that I could also add the card to the stencil challenge at Crazy is our Fame, Stencils are our Game.

The stencil is from The Crafter’s Workshop and it has 4 feathers on it but I only used one. To ink blend I used a brush and distress oxide inks in Blueprint sketch, Seedless Preserves and Tattered Rose. I added two Easter Eggs and the sentiment from a GKD/Clair Brennan set. I decided to leave the eggs with no colour except for a few dots of pink on the borders of one. I did add some Perfect Pearls to the feather, before the ink had dried, for some shimmer. I can’t get more CAS than this.

Don’t ask me where this die came from as I have no idea and I’ve had it for a long time but rarely used it. For some reason it fell into my hands when I was searching for another item and I decided to do a test cut in white. It reminded me of a butterfly when cut. Then I had the thought that if I cut out with scraps in rainbow colours I could use a Jen McGuire technique and offset them as I put them together. It works for this challenge and it still reminds me of a butterfly but you can decide what you think. The sentiment is from a Hampton Art set and the embellishments are from Trinity stamps. Although you can’t tell from the photo, they are rainbow iridescent pearls.

Our house guests left yesterday and with today being one of those gray dreary ones, apart from a walk with the dog, I’ve stayed in my craft room. Thanks for popping in for a peek.

The As you See It challenge for this period is to use up those bits and pieces left over that we all have. In my case I often use them, but I did have the scrap angled piece from an earlier project and the PP was too nice to throw away. I added it to the card front using the black and white side of the coloured butterfly piece I used the other day. The flower and leaves I had left from something last year and I cut a 2nd flower for this card along with a few extra leaves. The die used is from Memory Box and is called Layered Periwinkle. The dream is from a die I’ve had forever and before I knew enough to keep the maker information. Most likely this was purchased in one of those stores like Winners or Homesense. The Trinity Stamp pearls are from my stash.

This is one of the easiest cards to add to a challenge and didn’t require much work as I was using up lots of bits I already had. No stamping at all for this one. Hope you all have a good weekend and thanks for stopping by.

I adore the colours in the Triple B mood board but reproducing them is a challenge for anyone wanting to try. Shopping our Stash encouraged florals so I chose a floral DSP from StampinUp which is from last spring I think. And the Fourseasons is all about spring so the DSP works for that challenge too. I had seen a card on Instagram that showed this fold in a video but it didn’t come with any instructions so I winged it and came up with this.

First I scored about 1 and 1 half inches down the side scoring from the pencil mark to the corner. Then I cut some black CS and the Dsp allowing for approximately a 1/8″ border on each piece. Each time I cut the piece at an angle before gluing them together. I added this to the card front and although I didn’t quite get the angle measurement right for the border the fold over hides the error so I didn’t worry about it. Again eyeballing the measurement I cut a small angled piece in white for the top fold and stamped the sentiment before adding it to the card using an MFT Itty Bitty basic sentiment set. The daffodil is from dies from StampinUp and uses scrap pieces and the tiny butterfly is also from that set but was cut from an inked scrap I had on my desk. I matted the inside of the card the same as the front only with white and added a scrap strip of the same floral as the front on the side you can’t see in the photo.

Welcome to challenge #194 at cardz4galz where you are challenged to use vellum in your project. My card uses a 3D folder by Crafter’s Companion called Ornate Lace. Even though I used a heavy weight vellum some cracking still occurred but I was able to cut off the worst of it when making the panel a bit smaller. I was curious to see if I could add some shine and colour to this using a mica spray and I tried with Lindy’s Starburst in Wild Honeysuckle Coral. I wasn’t sure it would dry or even stick but it did and I liked the result. The vellum did curl a bit so once it was dry I placed it underneath some heavy books and left it for 48 hours. That worked well and I was able to attach it the gold panel without difficulty.

Initially I had to do a bit of thinking on how to finish this card, as I didn’t really have a plan in my head, mainly because I was basically seeing what would work. The dies I used are unbranded heart flowers and I cut them from some marbled paper and again from the gold CS offsetting the flowers slightly. Its kind of hard to see in the photo. Then using another scrap piece of vellum I heat embossed the sentiment in gold. This is from a GKD wreath builder set. The panels were mounted onto a pale peach shimmer card front. It is slightly larger than normal and I shall probably make an envelope for it.

Small spears are beginning to poke up in the garden. Lovely to see that we’ll have flowers soon. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.

As you can see this card is designed specifically for this challenge with the twist of wings. Using StampinUp DSP throughout. I followed a tutorial from HERE and my card is in essence a CASE of the one in the tutorial. That said mine is a lot different to the one I CASEd. The demonstrator used CS as matting behind the DSP and I chose to leave that out as I didn’t want the weight or the bulk and instead attached PP directly to the card base. Then the smaller card has two label die cuts as I don’t have a stamp edge punch. Actually I have very few punches as I find them difficult to use due to arthritic hands. As well, I couldn’t figure out the measurements if I used a small die in the same was as she did using the punch. I did pop up my two image pieces and I added a bit of shimmer to them as well as to the embossed area using Perfect Pearls. My stamps are from an older GKD set and the sentiment is from a new Penny Black set that I haven’t yet really inked up. The butterfly is coloured using Inktense pencils but the leaves are inked. I masked the butterfly before stamping the leaves.

I’m quite pleased with how this one turned out and it may look difficult but in fact was quite easy to make. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

This is my second attempt at a card for the challenge at JUG’s and as I need a get well card this is what it became. The stamp used is a very old rubber block stamp from StampinUp and a sentiment from a set by MFT I think. I’ve misplaced the label so must look for it.

I randomly stamped the leaves in Broken China and Mustard Seed, but found the mustard seed didn’t show well so I heat embossed it with a Ranger product called Lemon Drop. It has a bit of sparkle in it. Then I added colour inside the outlines for more definition. I added the sentiment to a scrap piece to which I also added a border. As I type this I realize that I forgot to add the black so it doesn’t really fit the challenge but I’ll post it anyway.

The colour week at JUG’s had a background example that I liked and tried to emulate in a small way, but with, in my opinion, disastrous results. I tried twice but didn’t like either and this card ended up as a combination of them both due to my inability to throw things away.

When I inked up the colours initially, I forgot to mask off and ended up with a green stripe down the middle where the colours blended. To hide this I added the black stripe. As I wanted to use this particular rabbit/hare stamp from Lavinia Stamps I tried stamping over the black piece and failed. I did heat emboss it and deliberately left some of the powder as it fell, but was very unhappy with the result. So back to the drawing board and I did another background, masking off each section so the colours wouldn’t blend. I then stamped the image again and still wasn’t happy. I set them both aside and made another card for the challenge which I shall post after this one. Then I left my craft room and went onto other things leaving everything until today. When I came back to my craft room I had the idea of cutting out the rabbit on the second piece and gluing him over the top of the one on the original try. I added some grasses at the bottom and using an old stamp from an Easter set by GKD/Clair Brennan I did the sentiment.

Although I wouldn’t call this one of my best efforts, I’m a lot happier with it than I was and it certainly isn’t my worst card ever either. Thanks for stopping by.
