Anything Goes Embossing With A Twist of Birds

I decided to try a technique recently shown by Gina K. where one embosses each end of the CS leaving a space in the middle. My folder is a leaf pattern but I have no idea which brand it is. As an after thought I swiped a small amount of ink over the raised leaves but as I had already added some elements I had to be very careful. This layer was then added to a black layer to give a slight border. The stamp set used is from GKD and I stupidly forgot I had the dies for this set and fussy cut the bird myself. He was stamped onto mixed media CS and then coloured with Inktense pencils and Sakura Glaze pens. The sentiment is from the same set and is one I am quite fond of so have used a few times. I added some dew drops to a few leaves and some small silver beads to the sentiment section. I quite like the result and shall try this embossing method again soon.

  1. How lovely. Of course I’m rather fond of cardinals – both the team and the birds. I really like the sentiment. The ink over the embossed panel is a nice touch.

    1. When we lived on the East coast we had cardinals in our garden all the time. Unfortunately on the west coast we don’t see them and although we have a Stellars Jay which is a showy, noisy bird, the east coast Blue Jay is even more showy. I do enjoy watching the birds in this garden and am trying to identify them as some I’m not familiar with. I’m glad you like the card.

    1. As I mentioned to Judy, we don’t see them here, but I do love them. They also seem to mean Christmas somehow. Thanks for the comment.

  2. I just saw this card on the challenge blog it caught my eye immediately. Love the cardinal the partial embossing with the added inking. Great job on the fussy cutting, Johanna.

  3. I love the technique, and am so glad you shared. Your card is beautiful. I love cardinals too. I had to laugh about your having the die and fussy cutting anyway. I do things like that all of the time. Great card. Thanks for playing with us at Can You Handle The Pressure?.

  4. Thanks Gerry. I enjoy watching birds and have a lot of fun watching the hummingbirds at the feeders. Sometimes they even perch on the window ledge and peer into the house and they aren’t scared of us at all and will often come pretty close.
